Champagne and Mote Caviar Pairing Featured Sparkling Wine Now Available by the Glass during Happy Hour

Continue with bubbly toasts, by the glass or by the bottle, into the New Year at Michael’s On East. The iconic Sarasota restaurant is unveiling an expanded Champagne and sparking wine program tonight which will continue through March 31, 2013. Five Champagnes, including Moet & Chandon “Imperial” and Veuve Clicquot “Yellow Label,” are now available by the glass ranging in price from $8.50 to $20 a glass. Amongst the 350+ bottle wine list available in the restaurant, more than 20 are Champagnes and other international sparklings. Michael Klauber, Co-Proprietor of Michael’s On East who is consistently recognized for his vast knowledge and access to great values amongst fine French wines, has collaborated with his daughter Molly Klauber, known as the Champagne lover of the family and also Assistant General Manager of the restaurant, on the new offerings. ”Whether you enjoy a toasty, traditional French Champagne; a crisp, dry California sparkling or want to splurge on Dom Perignon, our guests will be delighted with this wide selection,” said Ms. Klauber. “A glass or bottle of bubbly in Michael’s Lounge is a great way to extend the holiday spirit and make every day a special occasion. Our diverse offerings include the best prices on inexpensive sparklers and surprising values on the highest-end Champagnes.” The expanded list is featured on the restaurant’s interactive iPad wine list that was launched in October 2012. The dynamic format allows guests the opportunity to browse expansion pairings with each beverage selection, including the offering of caviar from Siberian sturgeon raised locally and sustainably by Mote Marine Laboratory. The New Year will also bring new happiness to the popular happy hour program in Michael’s Lounge. In addition to $5 well cocktails and glasses of Michael’s private label wines, a sparkling wine is now available during happy hour for $5 per glass. Plus, an expanded selection of craft beers is featured for $5 as well as new specialty cocktails incorporating current mixology trends by Michael’s “bar chefs.” The specialty cocktails featured during happy hour will rotate monthly. Extravagant “Coastal Chic Wine Dinner"

This fall, Visit Sarasota County has invited travelers nationwide to celebrate and experience the Sarasota area’s relaxed, casual lifestyle and year-round warm weather through the “Sarasota in Shorts” promotional campaign and “Find Your Shorts Style Sweepstakes” which is accepting entries through Dec. 5. Now, an iconic fine-dining restaurant is embracing the concept with a special one-time event in February 2013. “Although our professional culinary team enjoys hosting residents and visitors on many formal occasions—when we all dress to impress—we are excited to focus on the spirit of 'Sarasota in Shorts' at this special wine dinner,'" said Michael Klauber, co-proprietor Michael's On East and Michael's Wine Cellar. Guests of a newly announced Michael’s Wine Dinner are encouraged to sport their favorite resort wear and dress in "coastal chic" attire. John Ireland, of Pali Wine Co. and Tower 15 Winery, will host the “Coastal Chic” Wine Dinner at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Michael’s Wine Cellar, 1283 S. Tamiami Trail in Midtown Plaza, Sarasota, Fla. A professional with more than 20 years in the wine industry, Ireland’s good humor, relaxed nature and broad knowledge of wine will be evident throughout the dinner. Pali Wine Co. was established in 2005 by co-founders Tim Perr and Scott Knight who shared a passion to produce small lots of artisan Pinot Noir they loved to drink. The state-of-the-art winery in Lompoc, Calif. was named “Pali,” after their hometown Pacific Palisades, located west of Los Angeles. Pali Wine Co. produces a Cuvee series of wines defined by their appellation of origin and named for different neighborhoods in the Pacific Palisades. It’s sister winery, Tower 15 is inspired by an area along the beach in Pacific Palisades, where the lifeguard tower number 15 stands as a local beacon to families and friends. The coastal inspiration of the wineries makes their wines a perfect fit for this special event, which will feature a five-course feast designed to complement eight selected wines. Michael's wine dinners are held monthly with unique themes for each event. This is the first event planned with a slightly casual theme; however, the featured wines and specially-designed menu remain equally extravagant. This event is open to the public for $95 per person plus tax and tip. Reservations are required and space is limited. Please call 941-366-0007, ext. 224, for more information and reservations. New Technology: iPad Wine Menus & Responsive Design Website

Michael’s On East Invests in Apple-Based Technology with a Continued Focus on the Guest Experience iPad Wine Menu Now Available for Guests; New Responsive Design Website Launched; iPad Terminals Provide Service Team with High-Efficiency Tool Behind-the-Scenes

Michael’s On East guests now benefit from a variety of new technological advances aimed to best serve guests of the restaurant and catering operation as well the adjacent Michael’s Wine Cellar’s online store.  The enhancements include the unveiling of an Apple iPad wine menu in the restaurant, launch of a new responsive design website and installation of new Apple iPad terminals behind the scenes to maximize the efficiency of the experienced service team. “Over the past several months, we have worked with multiple partners to research and invest in new technology to allow our talented team to do what they do best: focus on the ultimate guest experience,” said Michael Klauber, co-proprietor of Michael’s On East. “Whether you are discovering a new bottle of wine in the restaurant, making an online reservation or shopping our online wine store, always know that every aspect of our operation focuses on our guests’ needs as we continually strive to exceed their expectations.” Klauber, who has personally utilized Apple computers since opening Michael’s On East in 1987 and is a self-proclaimed digital addict, lead the charge to integrate all of the organization’s hardware and a majority of its software to Mac-based products. The availability of Michael’s extensive wine list is now easily organized within an interactive iPad program. Using an innovative application called Tastevin, the 350-bottle list can be explored by varietal, price and region. The digital wine list will complement Michael’s team of wine specialists, simply acting as an additional resource for guests who wish to explore information about winemakers, ratings and perfectly-paired appetizers, entrees and desert suggestions while browsing elaborate descriptions of the ever-evolving wine list.  Michael’s On East is the first restaurant in Florida to use Tastevin. The new www.bestfood.com website, which encompasses Michaels on East, Michael’s Wine Cellar, and Michael’s Events & Catering, was designed and developed by True Green Studios, a boutique creative studio in Sarasota. With simplicity as its trademark, True Green Studios created the site to unify online the new visual identity for all extensions of the Michaels on East brand that was unveiled offline earlier this year. A responsive design was utilized to provide an enjoyable user experience on both traditional online and the ever-growing mobile and tablet platforms. Responsive design is an approach to web page creation based on flexible layouts and flexible images that results in the layout changing according to the viewing environment. Finally, the installation of iPad service terminals in the restaurant provides servers with a high-end tool many are already familiar with, allowing them to spend more time directly interacting with guests. This transition incorporates trusted software, Digital Dining, with leading-edge hardware, Apple iPads. “Michael’s On East has always been an early adaptor of leading-edge technology designed to create with the customer in mind,” reported Kay Branson, Director of Marketing for Digital Dining. “It seems only fitting the restaurant is the first in the greater Sarasota region to make the complete transition to iPad terminals.” About Michael’s On East Michael’s On East was founded on April 27, 1987. Michael’s On East Catering Expands with Addition of Cloe Drapkin

Michael’s On East is pleased to announce that Cloe Drapkin has joined the Events & Catering division in the position of Catering Sales Manager.
Catering is a key aspect of Michael’s On East, an array of business concepts owned and operated by co-proprietors Michael Klauber and Phil Mancini. Mancini, who manages the catering operations, looks forward to Cloe’s touch on the experienced team. “Cloe is a true professional who knows our community well—and event production like the back of her hand,” said Mancini. “I know this is a great opportunity for her, our team and, most importantly, our clients and guests.” Ms. Drapkin will collaborate with many team members who have worked with Michael’s On East for more than 20 years. Her responsibilities will focus on functions in the Restaurant’s Private Dining Room, Ballroom and Wine Cellar venues, plus a variety of off-premise events as the catering services expand. With well over 10 years of experience and a degree in sociology, she has learned how to decipher and deliver everything a client wants and needs. “Catering, to me, is so much more than serving fabulous food. Working with a very savvy clientele these days, we must provide not only amazing dishes that delight the palette, but essentially please all of the senses,” said Drapkin. “I revel in the idea of being the conduit for people to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Creating the quintessential blend of taste, sights and sounds which translate to the perfect party is my goal for each event, whether we are hosting 2 or 2,000 guests.” A native New Yorker, Cloe started her hospitality career with The Hunt Club in Chicago and Pappardella Restaurant in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. She found her true calling for event production working with renowned celebrity Chef Charlie Palmer in New York City where she organized, detailed and executed large corporate events for an impressive list of clients. She relocated to Sarasota in 2004 and has lead the planning and execution of destination and local weddings, member social events and corporate functions for the Longboat Key Club & Resort’s catering team since 2005. Drapkin holds a Bachelor of Science degree from State University of New York at Oneonta and is a proud mom to her witty, spunky 5 year old daughter.   Cloe Drapkin can be reached at 941-366-0007, ext. 246 or This email address is being protected from spambots. Epicurean Adventure to New Orleans Pays Tribute to Arnaud’s During Savor Sarasota

Each month, Michael’s On East offers a new Epicurean Adventure to a select culinary destination, but this June Michael’s guests will enjoy an extra special menu to savor. The June 2012 Epicurean Adventure menu will salute a New Orleans classic restaurant located in the heart of the French Quarter: Arnaud’s. A three-course dinner featuring original Arnaud’s specialties will be available for $25 per person as well as a two-course lunch for $15 per person, in conjunction with Savor Sarasota presented by Visit Sarasota County. Michael’s On East will offer selected wines paired with the specialty menu in June; Wilson Daniels, Chardonnay, 2010 and Villa San Juliette, Petite Syrah, 2010 will be featured for $10 per pairing during dinner and $5 per pairing during lunch. It was in New Orleans where Michael’s On East Founder and Co-Proprietor Michael Klauber gained his original love for food with bold flavor. Following studies at Cornell University, Klauber began a management training program at the famed Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans where he worked directly with hotel General Manager Archie Casbarian. In 1978, Casbarian purchased the historic Arnaud’s site and began restoration of the property, inviting Klauber to join him in transition and re-opening of the restaurant. Klauber worked with the Casbarian family from 1977 to 1980. Many members of the Klauber family, a name now synonymous with hospitality in Sarasota, have also worked with the Casbarians in New Orleans. Tommy Klauber worked at the Royal Sonesta from 1976 to 1978 on the culinary team. Katie Klauber Moulton completed a college internship with the marketing and food & beverage departments at the Royal Sonesta in the summer of 1975. Subsequently, while working for a hotel and restaurant design and consulting firm in the summer of 1978, she drafted plans for the Arnaud’s renovation. Along with all three of his children, Dr. Murray “Murf” Klauber maintains a close friendship with the Casbarian family. Michael’s On East current General Manager Jeffrey Hymel got his start at Arnaud’s as well. Michael Klauber returned to Sarasota in 1980 to take the helm of food and beverage operations at his family’s historic property on Longboat Key, The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort. He opened Michael’s On East in 1987. “Having recently celebrated 25 years, it’s a nostalgic time to reflect and celebrate our history, and New Orleans is certainly an influential part of my history,” said Klauber. “Count Arnaud (Cazenave) believed that ‘the pursuit of the pleasures of the table is as worthy as anything else one chooses to pursue in life,’ and I take great pride in serving our community and our guests. What I learned from my mentor Archie Casbarian is the philosophy of running the business from the guest’s point of view. A philosophy we continue to live by today at Michael’s On East.” Presently, Arnaud’s Restaurant is being operated by a fourth generation of owners, Katy and Archie Casbarian, Jr. along with their mother Jane.  Just as the Casbarian family continues an instrumental legacy at Arnaud’s, Michael’s daughters Kelly Klauber and Molly Klauber are active members of the Michael’s On East team today. Michael’s On East Executive Chef Jamil Pineda worked directly with Arnaud’s Chef de Cuisine Tommy DiGiovanni in preparation for the special menu. Michael’s Epicurean Adventures present culinary journeys to a new destination each month. The Epicurean Adventure to New Orleans dinner menu will be available Monday through Saturday, June 1 – 31, 2012. The two-course lunch offering is available Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information or to make restaurant reservations, please call 941-366-0007, ext. 224 or visit www.bestfood.com. Drawing for New Orleans Getaway Announced In conjunction with the featured Arnaud’s-inspired menu, Michael’s On East guests will have the opportunity to win a trip for two to New Orleans. The luxurious weekend getaway will include roundtrip airfare, a magnificent dinner at the famed Arnaud’s restaurant, a two-night stay at the Royal Sonesta Hotel New Orleans on world-famous Bourbon Street and dinner at the hotel’s new Restaurant R’evolution opening this June. Restaurant R’evolution is the first joint venture of award-winning chefs John Folse and Rick Tramonto, offering modern, imaginative reinterpretations of classic Cajun and Creole cuisine. All guests who dine at Michael’s On East in June will be invited to complete an entry form during his or her visit in the dining room or lounge. No purchase is necessary to enter. A single winner will be randomly selected on July 2, 2012. Seventy years later, in 1978, Arnaud’s was acquired by Archie and Jane Casbarian, the second family of proprietors the restaurant has ever known.  Casbarian sought to return Arnaud’s to the roots from which it had strayed by both restoring the property and reinvigorating the cuisine. In so doing, Casbarian brought world renown and widespread acclaim to Arnaud’s. Located steps off of Bourbon Street in the heart of the French Quarter, Arnaud’s offers classic Creole Cuisine and exemplary service in beautifully restored turn of the century dining rooms. You Made Everything Easy

Hi, Ngoc, Our luncheon was perfect!  After months of planning, gathering together people to help execute the plan, and seeing it all come together was a beautiful thing!  You made everything easy in the planning stage, and your lovely staff made the execution flawless.  Douglas welcomed us and guided me through the set-up, making the process uncomplicated.  He gave a stamp of approval on the centerpieces, agreed with me that the cream napkins rather than the red ones that we had looked at were just fine, opened doors, and even reminded me to leave my purse inside while I schlepped stuff.  He was definitely part of “the team.”  And, beautiful Evelyn provided a soothing note, making sure that I got iced tea from the bar initially, and refilling my glass.  The other two waiters whose names I did not get (so sorry) were professional, helpful, and fun.  Before the crowd arrived I took a picture of them behind the bar which I will send to you to give to them.  We agreed that it reflected their personalities. What can I say about the food except that one woman at my table said, “This is the best lunch we’ve ever had.”  We meet monthly at clubs in the area, and she is a long-time member who is not one to toss out too many positive comments.  Everyone at my table had the crab cakes…amazing!  From all sides I heard, “That’s  a lot of lump crab meat!”  The salad ladies seemed equally happy.  Then there was the dessert.  Oh, my.  Fortunately, it came as the harpsichordist began to  play and stayed on the table throughout the drawing of prizes so people could continue to take small bites until their plates were clean.  I went to the gym when I got home and rode my bike around the neighborhood. I can’t think of anything that I would change.  Thank you for providing the venue, help with planning, and a delicious lunch.  Our treasurer is eager to close out her books, so I would appreciate your sending me the bill as soon as possible.  We have the “changing of the guard” on Wednesday, so she and I would like to receive it by then.  You can email it to me, and I will forward to her. Thanks again, Ngoc and the entire Michael’s team, for making Encore’s end of year luncheon so special.  We look forward to working with you in the future.   My best, Becky Rives

Every Detail...Down to the Special Napkin Fold

Good morning Phil & Ngoc, It been a week since our Greenfield Prize dinner and I am just catching my breathe! I wanted to thank you both for all your patience and professional knowledge in making this years event very successful. You and your staff paid attention to every detail we requested (right down to the special napkin fold) and helped us create a beautiful room and an outstandingly delicious meal.  Our event captains, Doug & Wendy were very professional in fulfilling all our needs and expectations. Many thanks from The Hermitage and from me, personally. Sincerely, Joy P. Rogers

Everything Went Perfectly

Hi Phil, I just want to let you know that everything went perfectly at our Seder Friday night.  Tracy and her crew could not be better.    They assured that our congregants and their guests had a wonderful Seder. Tracy and her crew were efficient and professional from setup, through service and cleanup.  They were always available to meet every request.  The chicken drew compliments -- moist and well seasoned.  The flourless chocolate cake was as good as everyone remembered.  And not a single complaint. Thank you for a successful event. Ron Benice, Temple Sinai Seder
