Marie Selby Botanical Gardens (Selby Gardens) announces a new Selby House Café menu to coincide with reopening after months of restoration work. Michael’s On East is the exclusive food service provider of Selby Gardens and manages event catering, daily dining at Selby House Café and developed the newest menu for Selby House Café. The restoration work on the Selby House is the first step in plans to preserve and safeguard the institution of Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.
The Selby House, which was built in the early 1920s, was Marie and William Selby’s original home on their property. Restorations have made the historic Selby House building more resilient to hazardous wind and extreme weather conditions. Inside of the house, an exhibition about Marie Selby and her family was re-installed after expanding it to include those who worked for the family as well.
“A critical component of Selby Garden’s vision for the future is to preserve our history. And we can think of no better example of that than to preserve Marie Selby’s original home and restore it to its original integrity both with the exterior and interior,” said Jennifer Romininecki, President and CEO of Marie Selby Gardens
The interim closing of the Café was an added opportunity for Michael’s On East to improve its kitchen facilities and menu, resulting in an even better dining experience for Selby Gardens visitors. The updated menu introduces new healthy lunch options, freshly prepared baked goods, along with a selection of local coffee, tea, and beer. Additionally, the Selby House Café will feature a few popular entrees from the lunch menu at its flagship location. Guests can expect to see the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl, MOE Cuban Sandwich, and Chinese Ginger Chicken & Noodle Salad.
“We are thrilled to see the completion of restoration efforts to the Selby House,” said Michael Klauber, Co-proprietor of Michael’s On East. “It’s an important piece of our community’s history and we’re grateful to play a role in its future legacy.”
Selby House Café is open from 10:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. daily within Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.
